Criteria for Application to FASGE

The guidelines outlined by the 2025 ASGE bylaws outline the minimum criteria required to support an application. The Membership and Engagement Committee will review FASGE applications, prioritizing the quality, breadth and impact of contributions to gastrointestinal endoscopy.

In accordance with the 2025 ASGE Bylaws, the following are requirements for Fellowship:            

  1. Active or International Member for at least five (5) years beyond completion of training.
  2. Active Members must have initial board certification in adult or pediatric gastroenterology or surgery.
  3. Significant scientific contributions to the field of gastrointestinal endoscopy as evidenced by:
    1. Significant scientific contributions to the field of endoscopy; or
    2. Significant contributions to education in endoscopy on the international, national, state, or regional level; or
    3. Significant service to ASGE (minimum requirement is successful service on one ASGE committee as attested by the committee chair; and
    4. Contributions to endoscopy at the local level beyond an individual’s practice of gastroenterology and thirty (30) hours of CME related to gastrointestinal endoscopy in the last five (5) years, including at least two (2) ASGE-sponsored courses, virtual or in person.
  4. Two recommendation forms.
    • Active applicants: Two recommendation forms from ASGE members in good standing for at least 5 years or from FASGE/MASGE members.
    • International applicants: One recommendation form from an ASGE member in good standing for at least 5 years or from a FASGE/MASGE member. The second recommendation may come from a gastroenterology leader in the applicant’s home country (e.g., Chief of GI, President of a GI society).Current Curriculum Vitae must be included with application.
  5. Current Curriculum Vitae must be included with application.
  6. The FASGE designation  requires individuals to maintain ASGE membership in good standing. Should membership lapse for any reason, the individual will lose the privilege to use the FASGE designation and will be required to relinquish the designation  immediately.
  7. A $250non-refundable processing fee made payable to ASGE must accompany the application.

Application

To apply for Fellowship, please see the new criteria and application below.. You can now complete your application for Fellowship with our online application. All complete applications will be processed in six to eight weeks. Upon approval of your application, you will receive a letter indicating that you may use your Fellowship - FASGE designation. You will also receive a certificate along with a FASGE pin.
